Through several meetings and experiences with those involved, the very thinking that was to form the basis for the choices in the restoration work was prepared. It soon became clear that securing the building, ie some kind of restoration in the summer of 2015, had to be the first priority. It was very uncertain whether the cabin would withstand another autumn storm or snow winter.
Furthermore, there was a strong desire, especially from the National Antiquarian, that most of the original interior and atmosphere had to be preserved. Therefore, the first strategy became a so-called cheese bell preservation, where we only wanted to change the cane and build a bearing house on the outside of the cottage with extensions and cladding and then with the older timber as a backdrop inside. With this in mind, we took a new and even more in-depth experience of assessing the original sticks. We already knew that three out of four canopies were completely or partially gone. Further up, it turned out that there was no screw or nail attachment in any of the timber until the 3rd-6th. on the south, east and west walls. On the south-west corner, the timber was heavily attacked by raids right up to and including the pole. We had to change strategy.
