On September 26, 1944, a Canadian Wellintgton bomber landed on Søre Neset (Baggane) in Os.

After a fantastic effort by the locals, Milorg and Saborg, the entire flight crew of six rescued to Botnahytto, about Lønningdal and Øvredal. At most, 4,000 German soldiers were in search of the fugitives.

The Canadians renamed the cabin and the area here "Little Canada", similar to their hometowns in Ontario.

The 6 Canadian gutans were, after 9 days here, collected and transported large quantities of German guard boats at the submarine in Hatvik with "Snøgg" where Lars Orrebakken was captain and Haldor Øvredal crew, to Austevoll, where Shetlands Larsen picked up and delivered them on Shetland.

Author Arnfinn Haga has portrayed these events in his books "It rains in the mountains" and "Emergency landing". The story is told at http://www.sixsacksofpotatoes.deeth.ca

Snøgg was restored for the 60th anniversary of the crash and rescue in 2004. It was originally built by H.J.Askvik in 1938.
